British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships 2020

Internal Expression of Interest Form

Call Details: http://www.britac.ac.uk/british-academy-postdoctoral-fellowships

Internal Faculty deadline: Thursday 13 August 2020

The Faculty of Architecture and History of Art welcomes applications for British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships. The aim of the British Academy in making these awards is to offer opportunities for outstanding early career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment. The primary emphasis is on completion of a significant piece of publishable research, which will be assisted by full membership of an academic community of established scholars working in similar fields.

Selection of those candidates whose application to the British Academy will be supported by the Faculty will take place by competition. The Faculty will then provide support in the preparation of the final application to the BA.

If you are interested in applying, please discuss with your proposed mentor, whose work most closely aligns with your proposed research.

For any enquiries about the application process please contact the Faculty Research Office: researchoffice@aha.cam.ac.uk

Please download the internal application form here and submit it to the Faculty Research Office (researchoffice@aha.cam.ac.uk ) with the following:

  1. Your CV (2 pages maximum)
  2. a list of major publications (not exceeding one A4 page)
  3. a detailed statement of proposed research (maximum 750 words).

Please address the following:

  • outline the research problem(s) you are seeking to address and say why it is distinctive
  • how your proposed research will tackle this research problem(s) – its design and methodology
  • how your proposed research will significantly change the established landscape
  • how your project fits with the timeframe of the award (its feasibility)
  • why the University of Cambridge is the “best-fit” environment for this project
  • the appropriateness and demonstration of commitment of the proposed mentor(s).

We will request a letter of support from the Head of Department if your application is selected to be put forward to the University’s Research Strategy Office (deadline 4th September 2020), who will in turn select applications to be submitted to the British Academy.

Applicants must be supported by one self-nominated referee, who will be asked to fill in a questionnaire via Flexi-Grant. Your referee should be familiar with your project and able to comment on its significance, feasibility, and on your abilities. British Academy recommends the External Examiner for your PhD. The reference may be supplied by a scholar based outside the UK if you wish. Please note your referee cannot be your mentor, a past supervisor or an internal examiner. You are strongly advised to ensure that your referee submits the reference well in advance of the final deadline for this round of competition.

If you are successful at University level, we shall ask you to commit to applying through Cambridge, and we will work with you to refine your application for the national deadline 14 October 2020 5pm.
